We are all familiar with the Council of Europe’s Frame of Reference for language learners, or the CEFR scale, as a way of describing students’ level. A1 for beginners through C2 for proficiency and everything in between.
However, as we know, the scales are not based on what grammatical structures the students have mastered or the number of words they know, but on what they can do in English.
One of the skills the CEFR scale explores is mediation. But what does that mean? In this session we will discuss this, and show how it is related to the use of authentic texts and even more to authentic tasks in class, helping us to update the way we run an integrated skills lesson.
